People believe that being burned alive is “Divine Justice”

For those of you who still don’t know this. I’m Chilean.
I found an article in English for everyone who wants to learn about this. This happened past Wednesday 8. The prison system is severely overpopulated and this is considered one of the main causes for the long time it took to take the inmates out of danger.
This is one of the several disasters that have made this 2010 a particularly sinister year. We, as a nation, were supposed to celebrate 200 year of independence. Instead it’s been earthquakes and accidents that we have had to regret.
But I digress. What I wanted to talk about is this comment I saw on my mom’s FB. I was going to use her laptop and she had FB opened, and I read this guy’s status saying “Divine Justice” in relation to the mentioned tragedy.
I was shocked, literally in between tears and rage. I later found out that he and my mom went to school together. He ended up being a combat pilot for the Chilean air force. I can confidently say that he is most likely right winged, although he can’t say that openly because he is part of the nation’s armed forces.
How could someone think that being burned alive is well served justice? The inmates were there for diverse reasons, ranging from murder, to fraud, or even debt. Let me point this out very clearly: none of this crimes deserves being burned alive!
This hurts me enormously. And for a reason I’ve never said in this blog, and I don’t intend to mention it again. I may lose some followers but it must be said. I’m right winged. I don’t support everything they say, and I’m liberal all the way. I hate the relation between religiosity and the right wing. In my country the social concerns of both parties are not that different, and neither of them provides the changes I think are necessary. But I trust the current president and his ministry in that they will deal this issues more diligently and more in accordance with my own views and morals. I’m what in my country is known as a radical, in allusion to an old political party called that way.
So when I hear someone whose political views are “sort of” like my own stating such a ridiculous thing I get frustrated. No wonder people look at me like I’m an asshole when I say I’m with the right.
So on behalf of the ones among us that have a brain I apologize. I don’t condone, support or approve this insane way of thinking. No one deserves to be burned alive, no matter their crime. My condolences to the families and my disdain for people who think this horrible events are divine justice. There is nothing divine nor just in a tragedy like this.
Be reasonable
Fight the faith
